Tour description

of Lamanai Mayan Temple
by air from Placencia to Orange Walk

The trip to Lamanai by air from Placencia commences with a 45 minute flight (96 miles) to Orange Walk.  You will be picked up at the airstrip for a 10 minute ground transfer to the river side.

The second leg is a 1-1/2 hour leisurely boat ride with a very experienced guide/boat driver traveling slowly to enjoy the quietness and tranquility of the jungle which is broken by the singing birds or the howler monkeys.  Here there are lots of flora and fauna and of course an excellent guide to spot them out for your guests, name them and explain about them.

Once at Lamanai your guests are given a tour of the Mayan temples.  This incredible site boasts the longest occupation span – 3000 years – and the highest temple in Belize; rainforest enshrouded and teeming with wildlife such as howler monkeys, toucans and jaguarondis, hiking down the jungle paths that join the 700+ recorded structures can be an adventure in itself.

The tour is then followed by typical Belizean lunch in a buffet style of rice and beans, chicken, potatoe salad, plantains and drinks, shopping at the gift shop and then boat ride back to Orange Walk.

The boat ride is much quicker on the return.

The last leg of the trip is a leisurely ride of approximately one hour on the Philip Goldson Highway to Belize City (51 miles – 82 km).
